On a Sunday evening in
late April 2007, the Moxie Café became home
to an exclusive culinary experience for
sixty guests with proceeds benefiting the
United Way. The first annual Evening at
the Moxie unveiled a unique menu of culinary
delights designed and prepared by Chef VanDenBerghe
especially for this event. Guests enjoyed
a leisurely evening of dining and entertainment,
a silent auction, and food served by United
Way board members.
The Moxie Cafe, located downtown Union,
West Virginia, is a quaint, upscale restaurant
in a small town location. Owner and Chef
Reed VanDenBerghe (1982 graduate of Culinary
Institute of America) delights his customers
with a moving monthly menu that travels
from buffalo steak, organically raised Cornish
Hens and fresh goat to edible flowers, home
baked breads, and products gathered from
the locals. “We serve an eclectic cuisine
based on classical methods, keeping it simple
and relying on what has stood the test of
time.” The dining room, adorned with local
artisanship and artifacts from around the
world, provides a unique atmosphere that
is both “comforting and comfortable”.
